Koh Samui – My Initial Review (Costs And Accommodation)

We finally arrive after a surprisingly well organised combo trip consisting of a VIP coach (with air con), people carrier, another coach with broken air con and a cheeky ferry (which was about the same size as 2 and a half double decker buses). The total duration for the journey from Bangkok centre to the actual dock in Koh Samui was around 18-19 hours and with lots of power naps and sometimes slightly longer sleeps …

Welcome To Koh Samui

Well what can I say….awesome!! We docked here round 2 and half hours ago and you are greeted on the incoming boat with picturesque views of the island and the hills. Instantly noticeable today is the scorching heat, which with the breeze on the boat made me unaware I was burning my pasty knobbly girls knees. Whether this is a usual difference from the muggy heat of Bangkok or not, we don’t know yet. Today …

Khaosan Road, Ping Pong Show And The London Lady Killer

I have woken up this morning sweating it up to the max, a combination of dehydration (due to not bringing water to bed with me), still wearing my clothes from the night before (genie pants and a white t-shirt) and the fact that the fan was put on setting 2 out of 4 (it was like having someone breathe warm air on me it was that weak). My mouth tasted dank, as we purchased some …

A Random Day In Bangkok And First ‘TukTuk’ Experience

I awoke this morning with one of my plans for making money!? EBay products from Bangkok to make a criminal mark-up- even if you can make 50 quid on one product you can live well for a week or 2 weeks on a budget…This has to be a no brainer so I’m going to try it out! Anyways after thinking of this random idea we got our shit together and hit the tiles of Bangkok…first …

Bangkok Weather

Obviously we can only really comment on what we have experienced and the fact that the time of year we have come to Bangkok is Monsoon season (plus out pasty British skin and indigenous shit weather puts us at a disadvantage to acclimatise). Don’t let this deter you. From early morning, say 7am onwards, which may be a bit early depending on the number of pink umbrella’d cocktails you have consumed the night before, you …

Short Summary Of Things We Should Have Done Or Known Sooner!!

1/ Get a map! There’s only so long you can guess what bus you need and stare aimlessly down a street wondering if it’s the right way to get somewhere. 2/Realised not everyone is just being friendly……We’re foreign and they want you to spend your money with them. A little yellow bank on the corner has now been named by us ‘Bill’s Bank’ as we met a guy calling himself Bill there one day. After …

Bad Dreams And Metro-Sexual Activity

Woke up three times during the night last night with sweats on and the fear because I had the worst dreams of my life all in a row! It was one of those dreams which took place all in the room of the guest house I’m currently staying at and featured a poltergeist trapped in my room taunting me over and over and over! The morning before both Scotty and I had a valium each …

The Hit List For Bangkok

Yesterday was the second day both Scotty and I didn’t have booze in any way as a) we just didn’t feel like it and b) we are testing out the waters to see what affects you more with respects to alcohol or the spicy food and extremely obvious climate change. Well this morning was the freshest I have felt, I don’t have a dodgy stomach, I feel more hydrated and my head doesn’t feel as …

Man Bag – Beat Mosquitoes in Thailand

OK who wants to know about flies, mosquitoes and bed bugs? The windows of our hostel room have mosquito shutters on and from what I can gather mosquitoes are not really too hardcore in Bangkok due to pollution and lack of warm lakes and rivers but it’s still great to be prepared! Thanks to my beautiful mother I have a little stripy waterproof ‘sick-boy’ bag with all the essentials that a guy who is trying to take chances wouldn’t …

Continued Randomness In Bangkok, Thailand

Ok so get off this bus with all the funky smells and are on a random pavement literally swamped by market sellers with a lot of unusual looking fruits and an abundance of things to eat on skewers. I’m not gonna lie I was frigging ravenous and my first piece of food was a weird sea urchin type creepy looking thing which Amanda had just bought a bag of. With me being a food junkie …

From England to Bangkok

As I write this I am profusely sweating every 20 seconds or so as the room fan in the downstairs area (which I guess could be considered as the lobby if it wasn’t for the fact that it also contained the showers, toilets, staff resting area, laundry and one random giant fish crammed in a lonely tank who has somehow learnt to swim backwards) turns through the room. As to be expected from anything we …

Buying Travel Insurance

Right, so the date for leaving is ever closer and the preparation is slowly trickling to a head. Final vaccinations are booked, all be it for the same day I leave at 2pm, followed swiftly by a National Express bus at 3pm from Bristol bus station to Heathrow terminal 3 (National Express routes | Coach Stop Finder). As far as I can tell the only thing that isn’t yet in place (besides a serious lack of …

Bangkok Airport

So we have arrived in Bangkok, literally no idea what to expect…armed with no map, no idea of costs and no real sense of how people get around. Much of the issues we faced could’ve been avoided if we just booked a Bangkok hotel online. I looked into some of the online options after this crazy adventure, and I’ve gotta say I was kicking myself when I saw how easy it would’ve been to get …
