Our First Day In Krabi…Part Two

The first thing we had to do on the scooters was hang a right out of our complex and head for the port/dock in Krabi which according to the manager was only 5 minutes around the corner. This would have been true if we weren’t taking our time to familiarise ourselves with our new toys. We found it first time which is always nice and then realised that both the scooters were heavily in the …

The First Day In Krabi…Part One

If you have been following this blog of ours you will know by now we have nothing planned and are literally following the wind or the opinions of others, so with this in mind we arrived this morning in Krabi with no accommodation as standard and no idea of the area. The bus ride which led up to this drop off was slightly uncomfortable but definitely tolerable but it was actually the landscape of Krabi …

Manky Midway Stop From Bangkok To Krabi

Just arrived at the stop we have been to 3 times previous surrounded by around 40 other travellers all waiting to go to their different island destinations. I think the choice is Phuket, Krabi and Koh Phi Phi and all there is to do for the next two hours until 6:30am is avoid mosquitos or get some sleep. Scotty has already made his make shift bed using his bag and a cushion which he poached …

Krabi Review

It has fallen upon me to do a short review of Krabi. I’ll try to keep it brief as I know Ian has already written a fair bit about what is here. As far as price goes, the accommodation we got was very good. Paying 200 Baht (£4) each per night for a place with a swimming pool, pool/snooker table and a free moped is fairly decent. Compared to most of our other accommodation (Bangkok …

Scotty Recommends Music – Top 12 Tunes So Far

Scotty Recommends ‘music’ – Top 12 Tunes So Far For this little bit I thought it might be quite cool to write down some of the tunes I have been listening to throughout the trip (and inflicting on Thomo) and so thought I will just update with anything i have been loving, whether it be something new i have found and an old favourite. Give them a whirl, what’s the worse that can happen. Also …

Back In Bangkok Baby!

So I had my curry for breakfast after dragging Scotty with me who was only after a bowl of cornflakes. I had an epic portion of the red curry which I had had previously in Bangkok; it was a place I had been before but needless to say it didn’t fail me… During this meal we discussed whether to go to shop in Khaosan Road or to go to MBK (Mall Bangkok) which basically holds …

The Trip From Vientiane To Bangkok

We were picked up at 5pm from the Mixok Guest House, the same place where we stayed and also purchased our tickets from, and were boarded onto a tuk tuk with one other guy from Australia. We were taken literally 5 minutes around the corner before being turfed off onto a slightly larger tuk tuk which held around 8 people. At this point a random local who we assumed worked for the travel company took …

Myped

So far throughout our trip we have only hired a jeep, which whilst being pretty cool, is just like driving anything else back home. I was starting to think I wouldn’t get the chance to have a whirl on a moped. I have very briefly ridden a couple before when having a go on friend’s mopeds when I was younger, but never really to any great extent. As part of our accommodation in Krabi we …

My Review On Vientiane

As I touched upon in an earlier post I mentioned that Vientiane was a very clean city especially for a capital. The Laos locals are constantly sweeping up litter, cigarette ends and whatever else to keep the streets a pleasant place to walk around. We have found the accommodation very nice (Mixok Guest House) and it was a very rare treat for us to have air conditioning. My second night’s sleep was far superior to …

Behind Every Door Is a Lucky Thomson

Ok so no need for me to give you a rundown of the day’s events (nor will I mention Thomo’s disgusting LUCKY streak on the pool table) but I just wanted to reiterate that despite it being a one day stopover in Bangkok we actually had a fairly successful day for us. We manage to get clean….an instant bonus for u there, we managed to replace our missing, disregarded, abandoned, lost or whatever you want …

My Overview Of Vang Vieng

In a nutshell I would best describe Vang Vieng to be a party haven for people aged between 17 and 30. In the day you have many bars which all boast a similar layout of relaxed couch booths and large flat TV screens playing either ‘Friends’ or ‘Family Guy’. I haven’t seen any other variations on those two programmes…You can also drink at any time of day and night but you can’t expect to get …

Diamonds Are Forever, But Jewels Are For Fools

I’m sure our Aussie friend Dundee won’t mind me telling this story as it could be for the greater good (i.e. stop someone out there being as dumb as he was). Through Sean we have come to learn of a scam going on in Bangkok. The exact ins and outs are not completely known to us but we can give you enough info to avoid it. The gist is based around buying gems. There are …

Tender Tummy Thomo

As I write this I am pretty sure I’m listening to the scene from American Pie where ‘Shit Break’ has been given some laxatives. Thomo’s gippy stomach has now meant that every time he eats he instantly needs to go to the toilet and drop the contents of his bowels along with what sounds like a balloon full of air. Apologies for being so graphic but as our room is so small it is impossible …

Our First Proper Day In Vientiane…..Buddha Park.

After a fairly lazy afternoon/evening the day before (because we were still feeling ropey) we thought we had actually get off our asses and achieve something today. Luckily for us we have complimentary breakfast with our room, which is good seen as it is the most expensive room we have paid out for so far at 650 Kip each (around £6). The breakfast is pretty standard, consisting of a choice of omelette, fried eggs or …

Sick Boy Mark 2!!

We have treated ourselves in Vientiane to a sneaky air conditioned room at the ‘Mixok Guest House’ as opposed to the usual sauna pits we have been roughing it up in until now. With my stomach still feeling fragile I hit the sack last night before the 12am curfew which Vientiane has (and I didn’t know about)and felt pretty good I have to say lying down in my air conditioned room with clean sheets! However, …

Prices Etc In Vang Vieng

Well in Vang Vieng you certainly are paying for the atmosphere and not the local delicacies. The prices in this crazy party town don’t really make any sense as you can get a pair of flip flops for the same price as a Twix and a pair of Ray Bans for the same price as some body wash!! haha. The average price you can expect to pay for local food, i.e. Rice based dishes or …

No Spring Chickens

It’s fair to say that were not quite as young as we still think we are. That’s not to say we are actually old, more that we act like we should be getting our first chest hairs and seeing real life nude women for the first time (ok so maybe that one happened to me last week!!!). Either way among the many people we have met they have shaved a few years off our actual …
