First Night In Vientiane – Best Green Curry Yet!!

We have just come back from some much needed food in Vientiane and initially we were delirious due to a long day of travelling so almost stumbled into a café called ‘Rays’. It was Western and if I’m to stand any chance of getting my food intolerance back on a level playing field I have to get back into the Asian cuisine ASAP. So as we wandered around a corner which looked like it held …

How We Got From Vang Vieng To Vientiane

Well we have just arrived in Vientiane after enduring an extremely slow and bumpy ride through the mountains from Vang Vieng. The hills/mountains were a lush green and covered heavily in vegetation from base to tip. Along the roadside in the early parts of the 4 hour bus ride were many shanty houses with villagers sitting down cooking with one another, nearly all of which had a smile on their face which was very refreshing …

Tubing In Vang Vieng – Awesome!

If you’re like me then you can be very naïve to many many things in life by having an image and an expectation kicking around in your head only for it to be so far from the truth and absolutely way off! Tubing was one of these times where I was naïve and it exceeded my expectations in every way imaginable. I absolutely loved it and I’m sure Scotty dogg won’t mind me saying that …

My Retro 70’s Backpack And What It Holds To Date :)

Now I began this travelling adventure with a hand me down bag from my old man…it’s a nice sexy little number made by Karrimor and is from around the 1970’s. It is like an aubergine colour with two massive compartments either side, no zips and is mainly straps and a main toggle for the main compartment which is 60L I would say. Now after being bullied relentlessly in the beginning stages by Scotty Dogg I …

Random Conversation On Where To Go Next And Visa Border Information (Thailand/Laos)

I’m currently sitting here with Scotty Dogg still feeling mildly worse for wear after my dodgy beef burger and rice combination yesterday afternoon. We are discussing where to go next on our ultimate unplanned tour of wherever! As money is going and we are not earning we need to be heading down to Oz to finally take advantage of our working holiday visas, so we are torn between two destinations which are Darwin and Perth. …

Food Poisoning In Vang Vieng!

Well!! Where to start with this place…It has amazingly made Koh Pangang look like a lover’s retreat by quite simply being one of the craziest places I have ever been. I’m trying to write this post with the side effects of food poisoning in my system so it is extremely difficult to hit these keys. Without sounding like a hypochondriac yesterday was genuinely the most terrifying experience of my life. To go from fine sitting …

Behind With The Times…But Welcome To Laos

Ok so it appears I have neglected to write anything for a while and Ian has monopolised the writing. It would be easy for me to make up some excuse like’ he is a loser and spends all the time on the internet’ where as I am socialising, but the realistic fact would be I have just completely forgotten! That’s not to say I haven’t been preoccupied with ‘something’ else but that would be another …

Random Senseless Post!

I’m currently sitting in as coffee house with Scott in Laos with a hangover, sleep deprivation (again) waiting for a bus to take us to our resort!… I have no idea why I’m writing this tiny little blog post but I’m sure I’ll understand when I wake up tomorrow. However, we have met more great people and I think Laos is gonna be a good one. Still have to write more about Chiang Mai, but …

Arrival At Chiang Mai- Part Two

The second part of our first day in Chiang Mai consisted of chilling out, eating and hanging by the pool. We spent a good hour getting to know each other a little better and brought out the mini boom box from our new ‘family’ bedroom to blast out some epic tunes and ill rhymes! Well that’s what we think of them anyway, I’m sure others would have their doubts ;). The pool was so welcoming …

Chiang Mai Jungle Trek Part Deux

The next day was a bit nicer for the elephants as we walked them down to the river and bathed them, which they really seemed to enjoy, one more so than the others as he farted on Grainne’s leg and then stood up and crapped next to her…….genius. Probably the two best parts of the 2 days came up next, visiting a waterfall with a natural slide into a deep pool, there is actually a …

Arrival At Chiang Mai – Part One!

After an exhausting 12 hour VIP (loosely used) bus from Bangkok, Scotty and I finally arrived in Chiang Mai. The bus ride was the bumpiest one yet and I was adamant that the bus driver was nodding off at certain moments but that could easily have been my paranoia and lack of decent sleep telling me this. There was two stop off on this journey to Chiang Mai, one after around 5 hours at some …

Koh Pangang…What The F**K Happened!!! Haha

Kavos and Ibiza on crack!! This was off season as well…So for breakfast there was Chang and something from the rather continental menu. However, because I think people who stayed at this kind of resort (Coral Bungalows) only know what a hamburger is, it allowed the already criminally cheap Thai food to become even cheaper (20% off all the time). This made me extremely happy as I have now fallen in love with the Thai …

Chiang Mai Jungle Trek Part One

As part of our time in Chiang Mai we decided to do a jungle trek, mostly because the hostel we were staying at offered us a really good deal. This included getting a room for 100 baht each a night (£2) and the trek for 1100 Baht (around £22). This not only included the activities, but also lunch for 2 days, dinner for the one night, breakfast in the morning and a bed in the …

Koh Nangyuan Island (Just Off Koh Tao)

So as we wake up in the morning after another mosquito filled night we did our usual routine of walking to the Sai Thong restaurant which is part of our small bungalow community complex. We ordered from the little wooden menus and it is really amazing just how much of an appetite you gather during the night. I can’t quite remember what I ate but from what I can recall it was yellow and had …

French Nelly’s Hotlist For Northern Thailand

As I write this blog I am sitting in a guest house in Bangkok called Roof Garden after enduring a brutal 22 hour journey with a hangover from Koh Pangang. I am catching up on some blog posts and on this one I would like to write word for word Nelly’s hotlist which she kindly wrote down for me in my little red book on the beach in Koh Tao. We are going to follow …

Immunisations & Malaria

Having been named ‘sick boy’ by Thomo, it seems only right I talk a bit about Malaria and a quick re cap on Immunisations, I know I touched on them before: https://www.livefreedietravelling.com/travel/time-to-kill/ If anyone is going to get something, it won’t be that spawney twat. Before leaving we went for a whole host of immunisation, some free on the NHS and some not. Here is a list:   Tetanus, Diphtheria & Polio – free Combined …
