Scotty

Neurotically moaning my way around the world I aim to experience as much as I can and escape traditional British living. Travelling with my best friend Thomo (I hate him really), I hope to share my experiences with you, while constantly ripping on Ian and belittling myself. Should make for some fun times. (Circa 2012)Now older, fatter & somewhat wiser, I find myself sucked back into the 9-5 grind. With new responsibilities, but a never dwindling love for travel, I strive to regain the life I wanted, with my son and partner in toe...........is it possible to get the prefect mix? We shall see. Hostel Review For Perth

This is by no means going to be a comprehensive hostel review, mainly because we have only actually stayed at 2 so far! The two we have stayed at, or perhaps I should say the misfortune to stay at, are ‘The Rainbow Lodge’ and ‘The Underground Backpackers’ The first thing to note before I do a review is that both hostels come as a shock after having travelled around South East Asia, and that’s not …

Job Seeking In Perth

As we are currently in the Aussie winter at the moment our original plan to do some seasonal work right away had to be put on the back burner. This isn’t to say that there is non available as there is some farm work going, mostly pruning in preparation for the spring, but it is not as booming or easy to find as it would become the summer months. If you do want t do …

Singapore Seems So Long Ago……because it was!!!! Part 2.

Waking up for day 2 started with a hangover complimentary breakfast, a breakfast which you also make yourself, don’t worry though you don’t need to be Heston for this, it’s nothing more than toast with either egg or jam…..and as much tea, coffee and water as you want……but the important thing is it is complimentary!!!! It’s also worth mentioning that the breakfast is outside on the water front and so you couldn’t ask for a …

Heading Back To Perth

As we are having an epic chill out session in Hopetoun in among all the bbqs and quad riding, we have started looking into finding some work. We had originally thought about heading to Adelaide as it would take us further along the South Coast towards the East so that once we had worked for a couple of months we would be getting close to places like Melbourne for when the weather started to warm …

Singapore Seems So Long Ago……because it was!!!! Part 1.

I have no idea how far along our journey to Singapore Ian has written about, 1/ because I don’t read his posts and 2/ because even though he is right next to me as I write this it is too much effort to engage him to ask!!! So I’ll pick up from the point our train from Kuala Lumpur arrived at Singapore station. 10 minutes before arriving at the main station there is a much …

Sorry I Think I Misheard You……How Many Thousand Feet Up Are We?!?!?!

Well we’ve finally made it through South East Asia and down into Australia and to my joy with a fairly minimal amount of flying. Having conquered the initial 11 and a half hour flight over in a fairly decent and ‘sturdy’ plane (I emphasise sturdy as I’m still not convinced these things should be in the air or that at any given point some important piece, e.g. the wing, is about to fall off sending …

Strange Times

Now it’s obviously a little too early into the transition (if it can even really be called that given the length of time I was in South East Asia) to really be able to have felt or experienced a change now that I have arrived in Perth, but throughout the day there has been a definite strange feeling in my gut. This isn’t to say I have diarrhoea of course, but that there is an …

How to Wii $250

During our first (and main for now) day around Perth we were approached on the street by a girl working for Citibank offering us to win $250. Me being the sceptic I immediately thought this was some sort of scam or impossible to win and so didn’t really think much of it. We asked what we had to do to get this ‘$250’ and were told if we could beat the score on Wii Basket …

Power Day In Kuala Lumpur Part 2

Having scoffed a load of doughnuts and ruined any good work I had managed that day with regards to eliminating my podgy stomach, we headed back to our guest house to sort ourselves out. Being only a short walk we got back in around 10 minutes and proceeded to chill out for a bit, well I did anyway, Thomo had other ideas. To paint a more vivid picture imagine a chimp, now imagine that chimp …

Power Day In Kuala Lumpur Part 1

We have gotten ourselves down to a tighter budget than we’d like and so are minimizing our time in Malaysia and Indonesia until we get to Australia to start recouping some funds. As we had heard that Kuala Lumpur wasn’t the cheapest we had given ourselves a day and a half to get around, and as we have found out, that is enough to do the main sights and have a good walk around (I …

Koh Phi Phi To Kuala Lumpur (and our room)

As I write this I am sitting in our new room in Kuala Lumpur. It’s a fairly standard room, but to us the fact it has air conditioning is a bit of a luxury, despite the fact that we have already pumped in up from 20 degrees to 25 degrees as it feels too cold (If we wanted cold we’d go back for the British ‘summer’ time). We are paying 110 Ringgit for 2 nights …

“I’m Sure It’s In My Bag Somewhere”

When leaving England I must have gone through my bag at least 3 times shedding clothes to get it more manageable for my girly arms to carry. If I knew what I know now I wouldn’t have bothered. Throughout the entire trip it has been like one big clothes exchange……I buy them….Thailand consumes them. Whether it be through loss or destruction I am constantly replacing clothes and possessions. The following is a short list of …

Long Beach and Sunsets

I think at this point we are on day four of Koh Phi Phi. It’s fair to say that yesterday was a write off, as a group of five at this point, not a single one of us had the ability to construct a coherent sentence or even at some points the will to try and talk. It had been a wild first few days and so it was imperative we stopped for a recouping …

OCD As Easy As 123….4567

Ok so I thought maybe I would write a little something about my ‘OCD’. For some, they may be able to relate, some may get a laugh from it and some might just think I’m weird, but either way I’m going to talk about it. Firstly I have to mention I have recently been reading Jon Richardson’s book ‘Its Not Me It’s You’ (all be it only 60 pages in at this point) who is …

Krabi Review

It has fallen upon me to do a short review of Krabi. I’ll try to keep it brief as I know Ian has already written a fair bit about what is here. As far as price goes, the accommodation we got was very good. Paying 200 Baht (£4) each per night for a place with a swimming pool, pool/snooker table and a free moped is fairly decent. Compared to most of our other accommodation (Bangkok …

Scotty Recommends Music – Top 12 Tunes So Far

Scotty Recommends ‘music’ – Top 12 Tunes So Far For this little bit I thought it might be quite cool to write down some of the tunes I have been listening to throughout the trip (and inflicting on Thomo) and so thought I will just update with anything i have been loving, whether it be something new i have found and an old favourite. Give them a whirl, what’s the worse that can happen. Also …

Myped

So far throughout our trip we have only hired a jeep, which whilst being pretty cool, is just like driving anything else back home. I was starting to think I wouldn’t get the chance to have a whirl on a moped. I have very briefly ridden a couple before when having a go on friend’s mopeds when I was younger, but never really to any great extent. As part of our accommodation in Krabi we …
