The next day was a bit nicer for the elephants as we walked them down to the river and bathed them, which they really seemed to enjoy, one more so than the others as he farted on Grainne’s leg and then stood up and crapped next to her…….genius. Probably the two best parts of the 2 days came up next, visiting a waterfall with a natural slide into a deep pool, there is actually a video of this somewhere but we’ll get some photos up at least. This should have ended in tears for someone but I think we all left more or less injury free despite some phenomenal landings in the water. Keeping to the theme of being wet (no rude innuendo intended) we then went on to do a bit of white water rafting, absolutely amazing. From being thrown around the water, to being dragged in by one of the creepy workers (seriously, no man should stick his tongue out at another man that much) and then getting whacked in the head by an ore….loved it all. Somehow we finished up on a bamboo raft ride, but this is really tame and you basically just float down the river for 15 minutes until you reach the vans.
One little trick that was bestowed upon us is that they drive you to a ‘long neck’ tribe village on the way back which you have to pay 300 Baht each (£6) to go into, but for us paying to go and gawk at the villagers is not really what we wanted to be doing…..plus we were completely broke and didn’t have a bank card.
So that is more or less it for the trek, I know there is so much more stuff I could have written about, but its hard to fit it all in without going on and on about stuff that you just need to get out there and do…….so go do it.
