We have admittedly been regularly teasing ourselves by looking at flight prices and playing around with different dates and so with this technique finally getting annoying (and the fact we had a tiny shred of money between us) we used our good old friend www.skyscanner.com to source some cheap flights. From here we were relocated to the cheapest airline which turned out to be Tiger Airways: www.tigerairways.com.
The flight is broken into 2 parts. The first leg is from Perth to Singapore with a flight time of five hours and twenty five minutes, departing Perth at 21:50pm and arriving in Singapore at 3:15am, potentially giving the option for a quick sleep…..for Thomo obviously, as I will be too busy sh#tting myself! The second leg leaves Singapore airport at 7:20am and arrives in Ho Chi Minh City at 8:25am, leaving a 4 hour gap between flights to get ourselves together.
The cost of these flights worked out to a total of $605 for both of us. This includes having to check in our bags (twice, as you have to do it for both flights) and any charges and taxes. So to convert to sterling this is roughly £200 each, not bad. It is worth pointing out that this is obviously only one way as we don’t really have a clue how long our money will last and even what will happen while we are out there, so we always feel it best to leave the return open.
NOTE*** I paid for the flights using my Commonwealth Bank account (Aussie bank account) and found out that in order to make quite large purchases over the internet you need to activate sms confirmation, which means they send you a txt with a code to put in as you process your transaction……just an added note if you have this type of account.
I can’t tell you that much about how we did the visas as Ian did these. All I can tell you is that all we needed was our passports, $35 (for both of us) and it takes around 48 hours to process. The website we did it through was www.vietnam-visa.com and it took around 15 minutes.
Job done. More to come closer to our departure.
