Ian has gone from desperate measures to the classic Thomson Spawn (an expression used more often than not to describe how f##cking stupidly lucky Ian always is……..not bitter at all right?). Having sent out his CV to a load of bars too, he ended up having a couple of trials. One at a high end cocktail bar/bistro and another at a little side street alternative style bar called Ezra Pound. Unfortunately Ezra Pound are quite a close nit bar and so were not really able to take someone on for a short period of time and the Heritage (the cocktail bar) was not really his scene coupled with the fact they never offered him any real hours. Having chatted to the girl as Ezra Pound Ian was told of a hostel around 5 hours outside of Perth where farmers would take on travellers and so Ian was all set to head out there on Sunday morning. Being the spawny little twat he is, he ended up going out on the piss with a few from the Underground hostel (including a German girl he was trying to hook up with and a guy who was also bidding for her affection……Thomo would like me to point out that he was definitely in with her……arrogant twat!!!) and dropping into Ezra Pound for a few beers. He got chatting to a couple of guys and told them of his plight (or should I say sob story of how he was about to be whisked off into the ass end of nowhere to be repeatedly taken advantage of by the locals while dressed in leather….a sort of Deliverance Pulp Fiction cross) and as it turns out he was speaking to the MD of a brewery yard who offered him some work there and then, 5 days a week, 7 and a half hours a day……not a bad little job. Plus it makes for some pretty good exercise and when you’re as vein as Thomo, anything which means he can flex his arms makes him happy!!!
So why are we ploughing in the hours? Simple……..Asia blues! It’s back to normality in Oz, working, developed cities and creature comforts. Having loved our travels so far we are eager to get back out there and go to the places we missed out due to financial restraints (**cough cough Thomo**). This had at first been comprised of a trip to Cambodia and Vietnam, but having worked out the logistics and been told by a few friends we have met along the way, you need at least a month for Vietnam alone. So this is what we are going to do. Having worked out some rough costing, taking into account the essentials…..hostels, food, internal travel, flights to and from and of course beer, we have come to the conclusion we need at least/around £1000 ($1500). Again working out our income and outgoings we can get this together in around 1 month, maybe one and a half. This all works out perfectly given our current circumstances. Through Ian’s work he met a legend called Buckers who is in the process of selling his house. He has let us stay at his for $125 a week (with the first few days for free) until all the sales are through, which should be around 1 and a half months……..it’s all coming together nicely. Although to be fair it’s in a place called Quinn’s Rock near the Clarkson stop of the tube (the last stop). So this means getting to work for me is a bit of a shitter…..$15 and just over an hour. Still, these things have to be done to get back out. The thought of beautiful beaches, hot weather, cheap prices (15p a beer in some places) and great people is making it difficult to have to wait a month and a half. I’m sure, knowing us, there will be some little changes or deviations from the plan over the next 6 weeks, but that’s all part and parcel of our nature. There’s always a downside though……..JetStar flight to Vietnam from Perth…….fuck that’s got to be a long time on a budget plane!!!!!!
Oh and I forgot to say, this is by no means the end of Oz, we will be back after the month away and heading somewhere over the East Coast to do a month of seasonal work (to help towards extending our visa) before meeting Ian’s mum and step dad mid December in Sydney.
Love Scotty x
