Tips For Writing A Travel Blog And What I’ve Learned So Far

When I set out on my travels with Scotty I knew a little bit about the importance of regular updating of a blog especially in the eyes of Google. Google basically owns the internet so if you stay on the right side of them you will generate more traffic through your site as their ‘Google bots’ love new and original content. A ‘Google Bot’ is just a term which people on the internet use as well as ‘Spiders’ and are referred to as these because they quite literally crawl your website depending on the frequency of new and fresh content. This content includes text, images, links and videos but when you start out with any website, not just a travel blog, then text is of paramount importance. The more the better but the quality of your content must be relevant and written in a good English grammar. ‘Keywords’ are words which Google identify as relevant, for example within this travel blog I use words like ‘travel’ and ‘accommodation’ as they are worth more than the generic words like ‘because’ and ‘the’. So make sure your content is keyword rich and just persevere and at all costs do not get disheartened if you don’t start seeing instant results. Going by my other website www.artisanhq.com it took 3 months to see good traffic from across the globe go through it and now in its fourth month it’s generating between 750-1000 daily unique visitors. It’s also crucial to stay on top of things even if there are other offers of going out, hitting the beach and getting drunk; so what I have been doing is taking my netbook everywhere with me and whenever there is a moment like now where I am sitting down in a café whilst everyone else is hung over I just write something down which I feel may be beneficial to others and my blog. At the moment the site is getting between 20-50 visitors a day and Google’s algorithms are starting to pick keywords from our site. So if you’re interested in writing a travel blog then drop me a line and I’ll be happy to advise and help as best as I can.

In a nutshell…

  1. Persevere
  2. Try and get at least 300 words down a day (which takes only 15 minutes or so)
  3. Update daily if you can
  4. Keep it interesting
  5. Don’t get disheartened
  6. Don’t let others tell you it’s not possible because believe me it is
  7. Keep you content keyword rich
  8. Use the dull moments to get your content on the website

Be happy and remember you are recording your memories here too, so when you’re old and grey and possibly still travelling the world (recommended) then you will be the one who can look back on some of the most important life changing moments of your life.

  1. Very well written my friend. Another tip – pimp out your site for all its worth across the rest of the internet. Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Other blogs, anywhere you can get a link to your website – do it. Google pays as much attention to ‘off page’ SEO as it does ‘on page’ SEO.

Of course, using Twitter and Facebook to regularly tell people about a new blog update etc – generally helps to encourage people to come on to the site. And of course, the more visits to the site – the higher it will go in Google as it sees the site as more worthy of it. Try and tweet and FB each blog post, if you can.

Shove good keywords into all image descriptions (alt tags as their called)

    Lol thats about it 😀
